Are Dental X-Rays Safe for Children?
Learn why dental X-rays are an important part of pediatric dental care and how modern digital imaging helps dentists monitor your child's oral health safely.
Are Dental X-Rays Safe for Children?
Yes. Modern digital dental X-rays use very low levels of radiation and are an important tool for monitoring your child's oral health. They allow us to see areas that cannot be evaluated during a visual exam alone, helping us identify concerns early and recommend appropriate treatment when needed.
Not every child needs X-rays at every appointment. Milan Sata, DDS recommends dental imaging based on your child's age, dental history, risk for cavities, and stage of tooth development.
Why Might My Child Need Dental X-Rays?
Dental X-rays help us evaluate developing teeth and detect problems before they become larger concerns.
- Identify cavities between teeth that may not be visible during an exam.
- Monitor the growth and eruption of permanent teeth.
- Evaluate developing jaws and tooth alignment.
- Detect infections or other conditions below the gumline.
- Assist with treatment planning when necessary.
How Often Are X-Rays Needed?
The frequency of dental X-rays varies for every child. Some children may need them more often because of a higher risk of tooth decay, while others may require imaging less frequently. Our team follows current guidelines and recommends X-rays only when they provide valuable information for your child's care.
At Grand Blanc Dental Center, your child's safety is always our priority. We use modern digital technology to obtain the diagnostic information we need while minimizing radiation exposure.
